We would like to acknowledge our partner Strategic Healthcare Initiatives (SHI) for providing us the opportunity to fund a professional grant writer in 2009. The services of the grant writer are to be utilized to assist the TORCH Foundation in meeting two objectives.

First, is to seek and attract grant funding from private foundations and corporate entities that can be used to initiate wellness programs that are geared to reduce child inactivity, obesity and diabetes. SHI has developed the Non-Stop to Wellness initiative to address these very concerns and grant funds will be used to offset the implementation of this program in rural communities.

Second, is to identify other financial aid programs and philanthropic organizations that show a commitment to improving access to healthcare programs and services primarily in rural and underserved areas.

This discovery is a completely open-ended process and will result in greater information about grants opportunities that our members can compete for and additional grant-funded programs that could be administered and delivered through the TORCH Foundation.

We sincerely appreciate SHI for their generosity and for their willingness to collaborate to expand the pool of available resources for the hospitals in rural Texas and the many communities that they serve.
